Useful Data and Statistics for the Design/Build Industry NYC: The Construction Dashboard and 2018 Construction Report
The NYC Construction Dashboard is a data-rich interactive website that gives pertinent information on real estate and construction development sites throughout the city. It gives New Yorkers a chance to see construction projects and development in their neighborhood. The Construction Dashboard was built by the DOB’s analytics team, an important part of the agency’s Building One City modernization project. The team created interactive real time reports gathered from various databases such as the NYC active major construction map, NYC sidewalk shed map to show construction activities around the city.

Construction Report
The report shows that construction activity has waned after New York’s real estate and development boom. The DOB issued a total of 165,988 permits in 2018, down from 2017’s 168,243 permits. This is actually the first decline in annual permits issued since 2009. There is still a high level of construction within the city, especially in Manhattan. Despite the decline, 2018’s total is still the second highest on record.

Former Commissioner Chandler noted that while construction activity is still on full blast, the building boom may have finally reached its peak. Regardless of how the construction trends go, the data reports on the Construction dashboard will always be there to let New Yorkers know about the changes in their building environment.
