In order to build a more sustainable New York City, the New York State energy and development authority (NYSERDA) sponsors training programs on the new requisites for the 2016 NYS and NYC Energy codes for architects and engineers so that they can master the new york state energy code and be in compliance with all their building projects.
So as to prepare architects and engineers working in various construction sites around New York for compliance with the new requirements for the 2015 NYS Energy Conservation Construction Code, Conquering the Energy Code was launched, this will also pave the way for buildings to be designed to be a energy-efficient. With more stringent code enforcement, it is critical to provide knowledge on new provisions, significant changes as well as best practices in the field in order to fend off objections and stalled projects.
Bringing Green Construction Knowledge
Developed by the Urban Green Council the course is launched in order to provide a certificate program and a comprehensive national training that teaches the basic principles of sustainability and green constructions knowledge to those who are tasked to build, renovate and maintain buildings all over the city.
The Course
There are actually 2 course modules, one for residential use and the other for commercial. Each class runs for about 8 hours and at the end of the class, the participants would have learned:
- Understanding of the structures and rationale of the energy code.
- How to navigate the energy code and differentiate the compliance pathways and recognize the requirements for each.
- Understanding of the interdependence of lighting and mechanical systems, the building envelope and how they impact energy consumption.
- Knowledge on what to expect during progress inspections.
- Enhance communication as well as coordination with the design team, construction teams, code officers and the client to eradicate barriers to energy compliance.
It is important to note that any building that is more than 4 stories high needs to comply with the commercial energy code.
Each course is led by a certified instructor having had more than 5 years of professional experience either as an RA or a PE, plus a desire to propagate sustainability and a comprehensive grasp of high-performance building practices. Courses are available all over NYS, please see listing for availability or you can contact the council for onsite course at your firm.
