The New NYC Building Code
In November 2002 a Mayoral Commission
was established to consider a model building code. The reasons for a new NYC building code are highlighted
in the "The Need for Change."The paper is simply an introduction into the need for
and direction planned to adopt what is now our new building code.
This month and in the months ahead, Blueline will begin to highlight
new code and discuss changes in the old code.

New Construction Superintendent Rule
In May 2007 Buildings Commissioner Patricia J. Lancaster, FAIA announced the Construction Superintendent Rule.
The Construction Superintendent Rule introduces a registration requirement for individuals overseeing demolition or new construction of buildings under 15 stories.
For us at P. Wolfe, that means the New Building and Demolition Permit (PW-2) for buildings up to and including 14 stories will need to be signed by a registered Construction Superintendent. Only a Construction Superintendent will be allowed to sign the PW-2.

Special Enforcement Plan
On October 9, 2007 a Special Enforcement Plan Workshop at the AIA outlined the Department of Buildings “comprehensive enforcement plan to raise the bar for construction safety standards citywide.”
The training session led by the Department of Building staff included:
- Special Enforcement and False Filings – Special Enforcement Plan
- The “New” New York City Construction Code
- Controlled Inspections – TR-1 Process and Form Revision
