Local Law 56 of 2016 took effect last June 9, 2016 and this law changes the permit fees for New Buildings and Alterations and the Department gears up its systems to implement these new fee structures so while the system is updating, NB and Alt-1 permit fees shall continue to use the old rates and this will prevail until the system updates are completed but you are advised to be ready for the coming change.
New Buildings Fee Structure
1-,2-,3-family dwelling fees will be down to $0.06 per square foot from the $0.12 per square foot prevailing now.
All other buildings less than 7 stories high and those 100,000 square feet or less will not be subject to increase in per square footage, this will remain at $0.26 per square foot but the minimum fee will be increased from $100.00 to $280.00.
Meanwhile, for buildings 7 stories and above or with more than 100,000 square feet will increased from $0.26 to $0.45 with the minimum fee increasing to $290.00 from the prevailing $100.00
Alterations Building Fee Structure
For Alteration projects on 1-, 2-, 3-family dwellings, the calculation rates for new applications will be reduced from $5.15 for every $1,000.00 in excess of $5,000.00 to $2.60 for every $1,000.00 while the minimum fees for such remains unchanged.
For applications for buildings lower than 7 stories and less than 100,000 sq.ft will no longer have a secondary rate like before, for example $20.00 for every $1,000.00 of the next $2,000.00 fees.
Calculation rates for new applications for 7 stories and above/100,000 sq.ft or greater will be increased as follows:
- Alt-1 will now be $17.75 with the minimum fee at $290.00
- Alt-2 and Alt-3 calculation rates and minimum fees however will not be changed.
Payment of Fees
The DOB accepts the following modes of payment, personal checks and company checks are accepted, you can also pay thru money orders. You can also use your credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express), although credit card payments are subject to a 2.49% convenience fee which is computed against the total amount due.
