Within 60 days of a building being deemed Structurally Compromised, the owner must have a registered design professional perform an initial inspection. The design professional must submit an inspection report to the Department within 30 days after inspection.
Reporting criteria are outlined in the NYC Administrative Code §28-216.12 and NYC Rule §102-03.
Periodic Annual Inspections + Reports
Structural inspections must be performed and reports filed annually. Annual inspections and reports must continue until a final certification that the condition has been remedied is filed with the Department. Inspection reports, fee payments and payments of any associated penalties must be completed before permits will be issued to alter, repair, demolish or enlarge a Structurally Compromised Building.
Fees + Penalties
The filing fee for each report is $500. Civil penalties of $3,000 for each violation will be imposed upon owners who do not file reports within 90 days of their building being deemed Structurally Compromised.
Payments
- Make checks or money orders payable to the NYC Department of Buildings.
- The Structurally Compromised Building’s BIN number must be written on all checks.
- All checks with completed Structurally Compromised Buildings Intake (SCBI) forms must be mailed to DOB.
