January 1, 2016 marks the date when most modest Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Panel Installation projects have been authorized to file for Professional certification via the Hub Self Service System. This projects are also those that are filing for Tax Abatement.
Professional Engineers and Registered architects through DOB’s Professional Certification Program are able to certify plans filed by them comply with all relevant laws pertaining to the project. Therefore the amount usually consumed in waiting for the work permit to be issued is drastically reduced because it eliminates the DOB’s plan examination processes.
As was mentioned, qualified Solar PV Panel Installations that are professionally certified will reduce construction waiting times and expenses and is hoped to entice home owners to invest in renewable energy for their homes and such moves will help the City Mayor’s sustainability incentive One NYC: Built to Last
Solar PV Panel Installations must meet the following in order to qualify for the program:
1. The Panel must produce a maximum of 10 kilowatts of power.
2. It is to be installed in 1- or 2- family dwelling.
3. It is to be installed on pitched roofs that has a slope of 9 ½ degrees or more. Before this update, only roofs with a slope 20 degrees or larger are qualified.
It can be realized that under the Hub Full Service, for the purpose of the plan exam, 9.5 degree and steeper roofs on 1- or 2- family dwellings are now considered as pitched roofs.
